Tour overview

Tunnel and siege of Sarajevo is a tour created for a better understanding of the event which took place in the Capital of Bosnia. Siege which lasted for almost 4 years, 1425 days of struggle under constant bombardment. Yet people of Sarajevo had a will to fight and survive, which was able to preserve Sarajevo as it is.

Siege of Sarajevo  will be explained using the maps and stories which will be provided by our tour guide. That will be the first of the stories which will follow. War in Bosnia, creation of 3 different armies, Siege of Sarajevo, Srebrenica genocide and war outcome will be among the topics that the tour guide will be explaining in 2 hours.

On the tunnel many of the exhibits could help to understand the complexity of this demolishing event which took 11.541 lives of people of Sarajevo. You will be learning about how the community of Sarajevo would be able to adapt to these new circumstances that occured in their city.

Listen to the story from the locals, from the generation which believe that war here was an ultimate mistake and that this suffering should not happen to anyone again. We promise to you the facts and unbiased opinions (as much as it is possible) in order for you to understand the conflict.

During the ride towards the tunnel museum, which will be our first stop, tour guide will start with an introduction for the tour, through which he will give you more information about dissolution of Yugoslavia. Also, tour guide will explain the sites and buildings you see through your window and which were important during the siege of Sarajevo.

After we arrive to the tunnel museum tour guide will buy the tickets and you will enter in the area where we have maps, video and tools which will help us to explain you the conflict. Find out how the war started, why the National Library of BH was destroyed, how many people were involved in this conflict and which were the most important events for this war. You will watch the movie and get the explanation about the movie itself.

You’ll have the opportunity to hear the stories about life in the time of darkness in Sarajevo, yet the stories will be full of life and full of hope.

You’ll pass through 25 m of the original tunnel which the guide will explain together with the role of the tunnel during the siege.

Guide will summarize all of the significant events from the period 92-96. Also, near the end of the tour he will explain to you how this conflict was ended, and what would be the aftercause of the bloody event.

We will finish with good examples and positive stories, We will speak about the future and fight against fascism and with a positive attitude overall.

During the tour, transport will be organised and you will be transported to the Tunnel Museum with the tour guide who will be explaining everything on the way, inside of the tunnel museum and on the way back.

Really enjoyed the walking tour this morning. I've done quite a few in different cities but this one stands out really. Really interesting stories and facts on the city's history are being mixed with some personal stories and experiences. Also enjoyed doing this in a small group, we went and had a little coffee and lovely conversations; all felt really personal. Thank you. I'd definitely recommend! Keep up the good work more

Absolutely great tour. The tallest tourguide is not just tall but also extremely knowledgable about the history of Bosnia. When the tour ended, I felt overloaded with information in a good way, and Almedin took the time to sit and talk with me and help me digest the experience, not just of the tunnel tour - but also of being in Bosnia in general. He has my warmest recommendations!read more

Highly recommend the free Alternative Sarajevo tour if you're looking to see a different side of Sarajevo and find out about the Street Art. It's really hard to understand the street art as lots is in Bosnian or Bosnian slang or has references which aren't easy to get so it's great to have a local guide explain more
