Famous Tekija in Blagaj next to the source of the Buna river, seen during the Mostar Day Trip tour

On the way to the south from Sarajevo, there are so many beautiful places to see. You will visit cities of Konjic, Jablanica, Mostar, Pocitelj and Blagaj Buna site.  Each one of these places is carrying a piece of a beautiful story about the part of this country that is called Herzegovina. After the first stop in the city of Konjic, the city that is laying on the shore of the ”Green River” Neretva, you will be passing through the Jablanica – city known for the most iconic battle of the WW2 where Tito’s Partizans fought against Nazis joined groups.

We can say for sure that canyon of the river Neretva is something that you shouldn’t miss and you will not because the road for the Mostar is just through it. In Pocitelj and Blagaj We will recommend a lunch break for you if you are hungry. Definitely, our recommendation would be to go up to the top of the stairs in the medieval city of Pocitelj to see artistic Utopia of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Why are we saying this? Because after those stairs climbing you will definitely get hungry and restaurants in the Blagaj Buna, our next stop, are perfect for the lunch. You will be sitting in front of one of the largest springs in Europe and 100% the most beautiful one. Explore Tekki and get ready for Mostar where you will have a tour and have a free time to explore Old Town and famous Shops in Mostar.

On the way back usually our guests are silent because of the two reasons. First, they have learned so much and seen so much so they can not ask too much. PROCESSING. The second one is that the most of them take a good nap because climbing to the top of the Pocitelj is not that easy.

The tour spots are :

  • The excursion starts from in front of our agency
  • Konjic
  • Jablanica
  • Pocitelj
  • Blagaj Buna
  • Mostar
  • Sarajevo
  • Kravice as the tour spot can be added for additional 15 EUR per person.

Old stone bridge over the Neretva river in Konjic town
We shall stop for the coffee in the city of Konjic

Konjic

A coffee break will be made in Konjic on the way back from the Bunker. There we will summarize what we saw at Tito’s secret facility, discuss about Tito and Yugoslavia and maybe resolve some of the myths and conspiracy theories that surround such a strong character as Tito himself. We can summarize all the important historical facts we learned on this trip.

Neretva bridge in Jablanica, near Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Battle on Neretva is one of the decisive WWII battles between Tito's Partisans and Nazis.

Jablanica

Jablanica is the city where the one of the most important WWII battles have happened. In front of Battle on Neretva museum you will get explanation about the event that happened there and see the famous bridge.

Beautiful scenery of the old town Pocitelj with mosque in focus and fortress in background, seen during Mostar Day Trip
Mecca for all artist of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Pocitelj

Pocitelj is one of the medieval cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Entirely made out of the stone, located on the hill next to the river Neretva, it is one of the most beautiful cities from that period in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Famous Tekija in Blagaj next to the source of the Buna river, seen during the Mostar Day Trip tour
Dervish Tekki and Spring of River Buna

Blagaj - Buna

Blagaj – Buna is definitely one of the most beautiful, postcard looking like, places in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dervish Tekki and spring of River Buna is wonderful scenery while you are having lunch and refreshment before going to Mostar.

The Crooked Bridge in Mostar Old Town, Bosnia and Herzegovina, seen during the Mostar Day Trip from Sarajevo
Mostar is mentioned in top 10 romantic cities in the Europe.

Mostar

Highlight of this tour would be Mostar and its Old Town area. Old town marketplace in Mostar together with the Old Bridge is picturesque are in which you will do the tour and learn more about this beautiful city.

Almedin made it possible for us to have a full immersion in the local culture and in history from World War 1 until today. His knowledge is amazing and we could enjoy Sarajevo and its surroundings in a way which could not have been possible doing everything on our own. A perfect mix of historical knowledge good taste for local coffee and food made our holiday unforgettable.

Oh the history we learnt... Oh the laughs that we had...

Having always wanted to visited Bosnia, I was particularly amped for this trip over the New Year’s period. I had studied the recent war in Bosnia and the Dayton Peace Agreement for my Masters dissertation and wanted to visit the cities that I had read so much about and put clear images to horrific incidents I had learned of. My parents had decided that the time was right to make this trip together, along with my husband Greg, having listened to me all through my studies talk and share with them all I was learning. They booked a 7 day tour with MeMe, founder of Tallest Tourguide Tours and Excursions and off we went.
Our trip was somewhat different to the shorter, day excursions that MeMe also does and it should really be noted how above and beyond he went to put together a full package that let us do many of the tours and excursions that you can find on his website but also, as I had quite specific locations in mind to visit, he made sure to reach out to his contacts to make those excursions possible as well. The most amazing thing about this was that as we were in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the down season and no joke, it snowed heavily every single day, MeMe used his contacts to get museums and heritage sites open for us, where we were often the only visitors, to ensure that we could get the full experience that we had come to his country to get. This included arranging for the Genocide Memorial at Srebrenica to be opened for us and a survivor of the horrors that occurred there to speak to us directly. Being alone in that factory, staring at the bullet holes in the walls added to the impact that experience will forever have on me.
It was pretty obvious from our first 15 minutes with MeMe that he was going to become an extended member of the family. My Dad, who is disabled and cannot move or walk easily had an instant rapport with him and MeMe and his wonderful driver, Faruk, went above and beyond with him for all the days we were there. My Dad was prepared to remain in the van for most of the trip, especially because getting his wheelchair out in the snow could be quite difficult, but MeMe and Faruk carried that wheelchair, supported him on the slippery surfaces and pushed him around 90% of the places we went to ensure that he also got this experience of a lifetime. For my Dad, who was a History major in University, this meant the world to him and also to me.
It was obvious from the start that MeMe was not only a brilliant public speaker, who knew a lot about the cities and places we visited, but also that he is extremely well read and passionate about his country and what he can do help its economy. He taught us that this beautiful nation is so much more than the sum of the atrocities that have taken place there and has so much more to offer than the war stories and the recent history. It has stunning waterfalls, striking architecture, a history of kings and empires, an assassination that kicked off WWI and amazing people. The things we saw, the history we were taught and the laughs we had were all a testament to our brilliant tour guide that put together such an amazing trip for us.
I don’t want to go on about the war sites – though the haunting truth of how this nation’s people were let down by the international community is heart breaking – what I really want to focus on is the amazing other things that MeMe was able to teach us about his country. I came to learn so many other amazing things about Bosnia and Herzegovina, not all can be listed but the highlights were visiting the Tunnel of Hope in Sarajevo, Tito’s Bunker near Konjic, Kravice Waterfalls, the stunning serene Dervish Monestary at Blagaj, the waterfall and impressive views at Jajce, the picture perfect Old Bridge in the city of Mostar, the amazing Bosnian red wine – which should be imported all over the world – and the lunch time must have – Cevapi. MeMe was able to open our eyes to all of these places and things in such a creative way and his own passion for everything filtered into every word he spoke and made all of our journeys together so much more enjoyable.
We were lucky enough to also have a night out with MeMe and his mates in Sarajevo – seeing the nightlife like locals, be introduced to Bosnian coffee – very different to Turkish coffee (or Cyprian #insidejoke :p) and get to use the incredible selfie stick that is MeMe’s long arm to help us take some awesome group photos! The guy doesn’t lie, at 205cms he’s definitely the Tallest Tour Guide. Though we did see one guy walk past in the street in Sarajevo who may have been taller…
MeMe went above and beyond on everything he did and this trip fast became my favourite of all the places in the world I have had the opportunity to visit. I cannot fault the service we received and the laughs we managed to have in the face of what could have been an incredibly serious and sad trip made it all the more memorable. I have recommended MeMe’s services to everyone I have spoken to since returning to London and will continue to do so. Greg and I are also already planning a return trip, hopefully one summer with some of our friends, where we hope to get to do all of the other brilliant suggestions for touring in Bosnia and Herzegovina that MeMe opened our eyes too – such as rafting down the stunning rivers and swimming at the base of some of those waterfalls. When we do return, whenever it may be, we will always always make sure that MeMe is a part of whatever that journey may be.
Thank you MeMe!

Dear Becca,
I swear that while I am writing these words I still have no idea what to write.
Anything I write will be to little for what you wrote (literally and metaphorically). I felt as a part of the family aswell and I hope that we will remain in contact as a real family. I know that every time Chelsea win over Newcastle or Tottenham you will be getting my messages.
All in all thank you for being with me. I enjoyed in guiding you and creating a connection beetween you and my country.
I love you all,
Sending a lot of kisses to all of you,
Meme

Frequently asked questions

Keep in mind that Herzegovina is usually a bit warmer than Sarajevo is. During the spring and autumn weather can change a couple of times in a day so you should definitely dress in layers, there is also some walking so make sure to wear comfortable footwear.

Bringing some food or snacks is recommended because it is a day long tour. Lunch can be organised and included if the guests are willing to do it.

We are back in Sarajevo around 7 o clock, the Mostar and Herzegovina full day tour ends at the same place it started, right in front of our agency. Of Course if our guests would like to be dropped off someplace else that also can be arranged.

Please be 10 minutes before the start of the tour. If you have problem finding us, you have google map link HERE.
